The Health Services Research Advancement Award (HSRA Award) recognizes any individual, team or organization that has contributed significantly to the advancement of health services research in Canada.

  

Since 2000, the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation (CHSRF) has accepted public nominations for the HSRA Award and awarded it to renowned individuals from across the country.

 

The winner receives: 

  • A certificate and $15,000 for use in the advancement of health services research in a way designated by the recipient;
  • Travel, accommodations and registration to the 2010 CAHSPR conference in Toronto to receive the award; and
  • Opportunities to attend and give presentation(s) about their health services research contribution at future CHSRF-led conference(s).

Dr. Peter C. Coyte


The Canadian Health Services Research Foundation has awarded Dr. Peter C. Coyte the 11th annual Health Services Research Advancement Award. For more than two decades, Dr. Coyte has demonstrated his commitment to excellence in educating and mentoring future generations of health services researchers.

Dr. Coyte is a professor of health economics in the Department of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto. He is also the inaugural president of the Canadian Association for Health Services and Policy Research (CAHSPR) and is a champion of the Toronto Health Economics Network.

Since being awarded CHSRF/CIHR (Canadian Institutes for Health Research) Chair the on Health Settings and Canadians in 2000, he has developed a remarkable cadre of highly trained professionals committed to improving health services delivery through research, practice and knowledge brokering.

Dr. Coyte has an impressive history of innovation and academic excellence in his own right. His research on knee replacement and middle-ear surgeries, as well as his work in evaluating services for children with autism, has been influential in altering Ontario public policy. Dr. Coyte is also recognized for his focus on the economics of palliative care. These achievements, along with many others, have earned Dr. Coyte an international reputation in the area of health economics.

His leadership skills in all areas – from policy-making to research to academia – are far-reaching. Several of those trained by Dr. Coyte currently hold prominent positions and are recognized leaders in their fields. Noted for his positive approach and modest coaching style, Dr. Coyte is recognized for his quiet generosity of time, resources and spirit.
